Poem 17 In Solidarity: Voice of The Polytechnic

by Christodoulos Makris

Voice of The Polytechnic

Year in, year out,
they rallied us, six year olds upwards,
into assembly halls
where recordings urgently announced

Εδώ Πολυτεχνείο, Εδώ Πολυτεχνείο.
Tanks and screams and breaking glass
come through clearly
with the crackle of time.

They stay lodged in our guts.
Again and again
we struggle to check ourselves
from hurtling towards the cracking of our skulls.
